Overview

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Update 1 is the newest version of the Acronis flagship backup and recovery solution. It offers an easy way to protect Microsoft SQL Server by using single-pass disk and application backup. The list of supported operating systems is now extended with Microsoft Windows 8 and Microsoft Windows Server 2012.

What's new in Update 1

Improvements added in build 37975

Upgrade from a stand-alone product to the advanced platform without reinstalling the software.

Single-pass backup of Microsoft SQL Server data

Fixed Issues

This section describes known issues that have been fixed in Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Update 1 build 37975.

Installation

[ABR-36946] Some DLL files may not be updated during a remote upgrade because Acronis Managed Machine Service locks the files during the Agent Core installation.
[ABR-38340] In Oracle Linux, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 installation files try to install kernel-devel instead of kernel-uek-devel.
[ABR-39298] Cannot uninstall Agent Core installed from an .msi file in the advertised installation mode.
[ABR-36835] Installation of Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Management Console to a non-default folder fails.
[ABR-37012] When adding users to groups, the comparison of user names must be case-insensitive.
Local management

[ABR-36968] The Last successful backup property of a machine is updated even if a backup is canceled.
[ABR-36337] The log contains many "Failed to update DML object." messages after successful backup operations.
[ABR-36079] During the recovery of files, the Speed field in the recovery task details shows 0 bytes/s.
[ABR-37758] During a virtual machine backup to a locally attached storage of the virtual appliance, a backup task hangs at 100 percent.
[ABR-11661] When a virtual machine backup includes conversion to another virtual machine, a separate conversion task is not created in the backup plan's tasks.
[ABR-35299] An error occurs while parsing the registry keys during the Universal Restore operation.
[ABR-36123] Disks that are parts of a Fake RAID are incorrectly marked as read-only.
[ABR-38193], [ABR-39963] After activating Acronis Startup Recovery Manager on a 64-bit Windows machine booted into a Linux-based bootable media that is in the Windows-style volume representation mode and that contains 32-bit components, the machine reboot crashes the operating system.
[ABR-39438] The second run of a backup plan to an RDX drive or USB flash drive (Fixed drive usage mode, Custom backup scheme with a scheduled creation of full backups, with the When there is insufficient space while backing up retention rule enabled) fails if the space on the drive is sufficient for one backup but is not enough for the two backups.
[ABR-38529] After creating a full and several incremental backups to a local folder, and enabling replication to an RDX drive in the backup task settings, an Activities Need Interaction dialog appears during the first replication.
[ABR-38113] Replication of some backups fails.
[ABR-38551] The management console crashes after creating a backup plan of some files from a network share, closing the console, opening it again, and clicking Items to back up.
[ABR-20903], [ABR-36626] When mounting several volumes by using Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Command-Line Tool without the --letter parameter, all of the volumes are mounted with the same drive letter.
[ABR-37990] The data catalog is loading endlessly.
[ABR-35481] Impossible to recover data from a backup created in CentOS Linux and stored on a DVD; no backup is seen in the Archive view.
[ABR-35869] On Windows XP, a disk-level backup (Use Volume Shadow Copy Service option set to Software - System provider or Software - Select automatically; other options set to the default values) fails and displays the error message "Failed to create volume snapshot" if Microsoft SQL Server is installed.
[ABR-36688] Backup fails after a virtual disk is manually removed from a virtual appliance via vSphere Client, and the information about disks is not updated in the operating system.
[ABR-36813] The log contains warnings after a volume is deleted via the Windows Disk Management.
[ABR-36935] A crash occurs while generating details of a staging activity.
[ABR-36804] Sometimes, a Linux-based bootable media hangs when the user changes the volume representation.
[ABR-35344] Need to speed up the network configuration during the bootable media boot-up.
[ABR-39215] In some environments, Microsoft SQL Server is not detected by Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5.
[ABR-29818] Errors occur while sending a test e-mail message with the TLS encryption. In Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5, the error is "Failed to connect to the mail server." In the Wireshark log, the error is "TLSv1 Record Layer: Alert (Level: Fatal, Description: Unknown CA)."
[ABR-35147] A bootable media crashes if a corrupted driver is selected in Apply Universal Restore > Mass storage drivers to install anyway.
[ABR-37336] Browsing a backup located on a USB flash drive via Windows Explorer hangs.
[ABR-38314] Cannot view the contents of and recover data from a file-level backup created by Acronis True Image Echo.
[ABR-30984] Volume letters of UEFI-based virtual machines are shown incorrectly in the Data to Back Up window.
[ABR-33467], [ABR-37371] A non-default value of the Replication/cleanup inactivity time backup option is not displayed when editing a backup plan and in the backup plan details.
[ABR-36397] The Apply RAID/LVM option performance needs improvement if an archive is located in a centralized managed vault.
[ABR-37571] The log contains warnings "Failed to find a virtual disk that matches system device..." after a backup of a virtual machine by Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance).
[ABR-37008] The agent crashes after the user clicks Disk management.
[ABR-24935] "The specified e-mail or password is incorrect" error occurs when the user tries to log in to the online storage by using the credentials of an account with no subscription.
[ABR-35109] Incorrect values of the Time remaining field appear during recovery.
[ABR-35984] An error occurs while exporting a backup plan with one of the Always use a free tape options set in the backup options.
[ABR-34875] Editing a task of recovering to a new virtual machine must be disabled.
[ABR-35599] A time interval over midnight in the custom scheme schedule conditions is reset when the user edits it.
[ABR-36511] Impossible to specify --volume=DynX when recovering a dynamic/logical volume via Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Command-Line Tool.
[ABR-40563] The Overwrite a tape in the drive when creating a full backup option does not work when the tape drive is attached to a storage node.
Centralized management

[ABR-37340] After some time, the information about a managed entity (LastStartTime, LastFinishTime, BackupStatus, LastError, Progress, and other data) is not updated on the management server.
[ABR-32758] Sometimes, a backup created by Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance) fails to replicate from a deduplicating managed vault to a network share. The error is "Failed to create data file..."
[ABR-16969] During the parallel backup (created by Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance)) of two or more ESX 4.0 virtual machines that are linked clones of the same parent machine, vSphere Client shows a warning about virtual disks with the same UUID.
[ABR-37067] It is impossible to specify a domain administrator as a managed vault administrator because the domain structure is recognized incorrectly.
[ABR-34204] Selecting a volume letter in policy rules when backing up virtual machines does not result in backing up this volume.
[ABR-37394] The catalog is empty after a disk-level backup with fast cataloging to a centralized managed vault.
[ABR-34887] The log of Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance) contains warnings "VMware_VDDK: SSLVerifyIsEnabled: failed to open the product registry key. Falling back to default behavior: verification off." when the user backs up a virtual machine or browses its disks.
[ABR-39551] Each Kernel-based Virtual Machine takes a separate license from the license server.
[ABR-39862] Sometimes, removing one or several virtual appliances from a host fails. The error is "The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_Instance_Machine"."
[ABR-39117] If the name of an archive created by Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance) contains spaces, the archive replication to the online storage fails.
[ABR-40236] When editing a centralized backup plan with the GFS scheme and the destination of a centralized tape-based vault, the backup type is always shown as Always full.
[ABR-37138] If several Agents for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliances) are registered on the management server and back up many virtual machines, sometimes the backup plan on one of the virtual appliances freezes or fails.
[ABR-36431] An error occurs while backups created by several agents are replicated from a centralized managed vault to a tape-based vault managed by the same storage node.
[ABR-37627] A centralized backup of Microsoft Exchange Server data fails if All Microsoft Exchange servers is selected in Data to Back Up. The error is "Internal error: An expression test has failed."
[ABR-37500] When a folder with more than 1000 subfolders is browsed in Data to Back Up on the management server, only about 100 of the subfolders are shown.
[ABR-36608] After the log cleanup, the Last finish time field in the backup plan information shows Never instead of the actual value.
[ABR-39018] Acronis Storage Node Service crashes while the user tries to browse an archive located in a deduplicating vault.
[ABR-35318] In the Tasks reports, the Next start time value is shown in seconds since 1970.
Backup and recovery of Microsoft Exchange Server data

[ABR-37988] Incorrect sent date and time is displayed in Backup Content for all e-mails in a backup created by Acronis Recovery for Microsoft Exchange.
[ABR-39911] A mailbox-level backup of large Exchange databases to FTP fails. The error is "Error occurred while reading the file."
[ABR-37756] A mailbox-level backup fails if Microsoft Exchange Information Store is selected in Data to Back Up. The error is "Internal error: An expression test has failed."
[ABR-25719] In the recovered calendar item, the location name contains only the first letter of the original value (for example, 'A' instead of 'ABC').
Tapes

[ABR-36375] Tapes are not ejected after a backup is replicated from a managed vault to a managed tape-based vault (the Eject tapes after successful backups option is enabled).
[ABR-36729] An error occurs while creating a task for recovery from a managed tape-based vault under WinPE-based bootable media. The error is "An error has occurred while obtaining the list of the tapes required for recovery."
[ABR-35492] The Apply RAID/LVM button is missing if the user creates a task for recovery from tapes.
[ABR-37831] If the Eject tapes after successful backups option is enabled, tapes are ejected before all backup and validation tasks are finished, so the validation fails.
Linux

[ABR-37148] CD-ROM drives are not detected by Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Management Console in Linux distributions with kernel 3.8
[ABR-38127] Mounting an NTFS volume in the read-only mode fails. The error is "ntfs-3g-mount: mount failed: Permission denied."
[ABR-38328] Mounting an NTFS volume hangs.
[ABR-32964] Sometimes, the Linux registry crashes.
[ABR-36547] Parallel backup of two virtual machines (by using Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance)) to a personal vault on NAS NetApp FAS2020 fails.
[ABR-37462] Disk changes made in the operating system are not displayed in Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5.
[ABR-35420] Linux-based bootable media does not detect controllers LSI 9260 and LSI 9265.
[ABR-36405] Because of tabulation characters in the fstab file on a backed-up machine, not all volumes are mounted after the machine recovery or after the conversion to an ESX(i) virtual machine.
[ABR-39211] As a result of recovering a Linux machine that uses GRUB version 1, the order of volumes is changed and the machine does not boot. The same machine was backed up.
[ABR-37527] If an Ext3 volume on a RHEL 6.x machine is mounted by an Ext4 driver, the resulting volume backup is sector-by-sector. This means that the backup process is slower and the machine runs out of memory.
[ABR-35923] A Novell drive cannot be selected for backup.
[ABR-36972] Linux-based bootable media in Japanese fails to apply the RAID/LVM structure.
[ABR-35059] Mounting an SMB share fails.
[ABR-39806] In some Linux distributions, MDP devices are detected as MD devices.
[ABR-39872] A backup does not start if nss_ldap is enabled in the nsswitch.conf file.
[ABR-38369] The agent service hangs in RHEL 5 (2.6.18-238.el5) on KVM.
[ABR-38120] The Apply RAID/LVM option does not work under bootable media if the backed up machine has a Linux distribution where the mdadm utility version is earlier than 3.0.
[ABR-36051] Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 logs contain unnecessary messages if the user browses NFS shares while selecting a backup location.
[ABR-36086] LVMs over mirrored disks (MegaSR Fake RAID) are not detected.
[ABR-35943] NFS exports are not mounted under bootable media with the RHEL kernel.
[ABR-38052] After a machine with one disk and three volumes is backed up and recovered under bootable media (the disk is selected in the recovery task), the resulting machine has four volumes.
[ABR-37506] On an ESX(i) virtual machine with SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, a disk without basic volumes but with logical volumes is not backed up.
[ABR-37607] Agent for ESX(i) (Virtual Appliance) crashes during backup and other operations.
[ABR-37160] Using the LVM snapshots may result in a backup operation fail or hanging.
[ABR-36812] In a specific environment, Acronis Universal Restore in Linux fails.
[ABR-38796] Recovery under Linux-based bootable media from a disk-level backup to a larger disk with extending partitions fails.
[ABR-35710] In some cases, the recovered SWAP partition size is reduced to 64 GB, as compared with the backed-up one.
Known issues

This section describes issues that are currently known and provides solutions to avoid the issues where possible.

Installation

[ABR-25735] When installing Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5, license keys are requested one-by-one from the license server. This may cause a significant delay if the server is connected remotely.
[ABR-33952] Cannot remotely upgrade Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Agent for Linux if the upgrade license is added to the license server but the full Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 license is not.
[ABR-14923] The list of components to uninstall via Start > All Programs > Acronis > Uninstall Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 does not contain all of the previously installed components: The PXE server is absent.
Solution: Uninstall the PXE server separately.

[ABR-40749] In some cases, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 installation freezes on Windows Server 2012 R2.
Linux

[ABR-28992] When a machine is booted from a bootable media located on a USB flash drive, the backup with the default disk selection to the volume on this drive hangs at 0 to 1 percent.
Local management

There is no agentless single-pass disk and application backup of virtual machines (the Microsoft SQL metadata is not cataloged).
Solution: Such VMs should be backed up as physical ones. To do so, the required agents need to be installed into the guest OS.

[ABR-26937] Confusing e-mail notifications are sent after each backup activity completion if sending of e-mail notifications is enabled in Backup options of the backup plan.
[ABRIIMSSQLS-2218] No warning about the impossibility of backing up an SQL database that is in non-operational state (e.g., Recovery, Standby, Offline, etc.) is added to the log.
[ABR-20686] Backup finishes with the "Succeeded with warnings" result if it is manually stopped or canceled. The result should be "Stopped".
[ABR-32785] Acronis Management Console displays a disk number instead of a storage space name in the Archive view tab, the Backup Content window, and the Disk management view.
[ABR-31544] No warnings in the log after recovery of files to a ReFS volume if the files have a compressed attribute. Such files are not supported.
[ABR-31547] Recovery of files to a ReFS volume fails if the files have an encrypted attribute.
[ABR-31503] It is possible to recover a ReFS volume from a disk backup to a removable drive. No errors appear but the drive becomes inaccessible.
[ABR-32851] It is impossible to browse and back up volumes on dynamic disks that have a sector size of 4 KB (known as dynamic Advanced Format disks).
[ABR-31348] In Windows 8/Windows Server 2012: Disks that are made members of a storage pool disappear from Acronis Management Console only after restarting Agent for Windows to which Acronis Management Console is connected.
[ABR-32573] The "E00060106: Failed to save data of backup being edited" error appears when mounting a ReFS volume from a disk backup in the Read only access mode.
Solution: Click Ignore.

[ABR-13805] Acronis Startup Recovery Manager is deactivated after creating Acronis Secure Zone.
[ABR-27253] Cannot create Acronis Secure Zone on a non-system volume of a system disk if the system volume is not selected. The following error appears: "Failed to extend the snapshot manager volume. The parameter is incorrect."
[ABR-31884] The Backup and Recover items are not disabled in the Windows context menu if only Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Agent for Microsoft Exchange Server is installed on the machine. The Recover item is also not disabled in the Windows context menu if an Exchange backup is selected in the system.
